Extension Studies

Friday 20th May 2005

Callington Community College has this week launched an innovative and imaginative Extension Studies programme. Students are currently choosing activities that will run in six week blocks of time from September 2005.

Students study some compulsory six week modules – Personal Growth and Learning Skills, Active English and Financial Maths. Some modules where there is an element of choice – Leadership, Personal Health, Food and Fitness. They will also be able to choose from a wide range of open activities, including activities such as Circus Skills, Archery, Fencing, Forensic Science, Robotics, Jewellery Design and Making a Music Video.

The aim of the initiative is to provide a curriculum for all students that:

• Develops wider skills relevant to the world today
• Develops new ways of learning
• Embeds healthy lifestyle habits
• Supports the learning in other subjects
• Challenges, excites and stimulates
• Raises aspirations and achievement.

Headteacher, Steve Kenning said “We believe that there is no other school in the country offering such a potentially life changing and life developing experience for all its students – we are very excited about the potential benefits of the Extension Studies programme for our students”.

All students will be receiving a booklet about Extension Studies. Their choices have to be made and returned by Thursday 26th May.

Choice forms for all years affected are available here:
