After many, many weeks of preparation the 1st rock
concert in 7 years was held at Callington Community
College on Saturday 5th March 2005.
With 5 bands playing, the whole night was a huge success.
The 1st band, Sourcebadger, made up of current
6th Form students got the crowd going and delivered
a fantastic performance. The atmosphere continued to
improve when the 2nd band, Valhalla, took
to the stage to deliver a heavier set, which got the
Mosh Pit going!
Third up was Criminal Damage, a group of
4 year 10 boys playing a range of different songs keeping
the audience entertained for their 20 minute set.
The 4th group to play was a very special one. Performed
by 6th Formers and Mr Kenning, the Spinal Tap tribute
band went down a storm, playing the well known song Stonehenge among
many others. Alex Parsons, a Y13 drummer, took his
creativity to another level by making his own mask!
Mr Kenning on bass guitar went for the whole look,
and allowed a huge black 'tache to be drawn on in
eyeliner before going on stage!
Dan Thomas, Y13, also did a solo performance of Jeff
Buckley's version of Hallelujah that brought a more
calming feel to the evening, although it seemed to
be the calm before the storm as once Vinegar Stroke's name
was mentioned the crowd went wild. VS played a full
half-hour set doing a few covers and a few of their
own songs, finishing on high playing Alive by Pearl
Jam, which is their signature song.
Thank you to everyone who made this night a success,
in particular Simon Spring the Guitar Teacher, Marc
Doyle, Mr Stedman and all of the bands that not only
gave up their evening to play but also all afternoon
to help set up.
