April sees the culmination of months of
hard work by students from Callington Community College working
at the Robotics centre at the Callington Space Centre. Teams
of students from Azerbaijan together with representatives from
the British Council are flying to Britain to join the students
at the centre for a two-day competition.
Students at Callington Community College have been working with
the Azeri students via the Internet on a series of tasks. Mike
Grocott from the Space Centre recently visited Azerbaijan to
help judge the first National Robotics Competition, first prize
being a return visit to the Callington Space Centre.
The competition on Tuesday 26h April will
see the students from both countries working together on a series
based around overcoming disabilities. The Head of First Lego
League (UK) is travelling from Manchester to participate in this
unique event in the Westcountry.
Next year the college will link with students in Azerbaijan
and Georgia to develop the International Community further. Mr
Steve Kenning, Head teacher of the College, said “The work
that our students are doing underpins our commitment to allowing
our students to work with people from all over the world as part
of our status as an International School”.
